Angels' blood by Nalini Singh

Finished 2013

Stars 5*

Elena is not the kind of character you fall in love with straight away, However I did really liked her strong will and determination. She's quite witty, and this makes her amusing and very clever, I am not sure I would say cunning but she has a lot of brain cells..In the beginning we learn about her and her job as a Vampire hunter...This leads us to Raphael.
Raphael is a name I adore, as I love angels, especially about the traditional ones depicted in religions. I am really pleased Singh used a proper name for him, this made the book that much better for me, it also shows she did her research and wanted to make this book feel like you are living there along with Elena and Raphael.
Right from the beginning you know that the Archangel is powerful. Singh's does this through the ways she makes him act and the way he is perceived. He gives off waves of arrogance, really not caring about the 'fragile mortals' that he rules over. Being the Archangel of Manhattan he could not, not be in top physical form, this therefore allows him to come across as strong and 'angelic'.
Straight away the book has drama and action, I mean Vampires, Angels and mortals we all know this is going to be crazy and lovable! Even if its bound to end in catastrophe.

The first meeting between Raphael and Elena is exciting and deadly, Elena is summoned! to Raphael. How can a mortal even if she does hunt down the vampires that the angels created not feel excited but terrified in Raphael's presence. She knows she dare not turn him down, and she really does not have a choice. She will be working for an Archangel. You could look at this point in the book two ways really. Either this is the point were everything goes down hill for Elena..Getting mixed up more in this other of their world will be disastrous...OR...Elena's life is going to be filled with passion, sexy moments and adventure that even the best vampire hunters would not get to see. I think I would go with the last one! Elena's life is going to be so interesting now, she works for an Archangel that needs to learn to value humans and she might just be the girl to show him human girls do it better!
Elena defiantly takes Raphael's interest and curiosity, I think to begin with thats all he sees her as is a play thing, well, as well as the means to hunt down Uram the rouge archangel, who has gone insane with blood lust. But then as you progress through the book you can feel Raphael starting to treasure her. Don't get me wrong he's still his dominating, arrogant character but he treasures her.
Near the End of the book when Elena has been captured by Uram and Raphael has come to free her you see how much she means to him. And i think this is one of my favourite parts to the book, it makes your heart break and melt at the same time. Raphael makes the ultimate choice, choosing to die with Elena and spend there last moments together.
My favourite quote is 'And he realised ....that a fragile mortal life wasn't just important to him. It was more important that his own' You know at this point Raphael realises what love is.

The cover of the book works well with the title and the general theme. I like the idea of the angel wing tattoos! I think its quite cool and maybe a bit different.
However I would love a more illustrated photograph of a angel with huge wings but so he looks more like a ghost/invisible hovering over a girl with white blond hair in a big city.

I have not looked at many points of this book, because the whole thing is so action packed that I would say this is a book you just have to read for your self. Twists and turns all over the place. Its extremely sexy and funny...An amazing start to 'A guild Hunter' series. You just have to read the next one when this is done. However out of all the books this one is the best!

I would recommend them to anyone over the age of 16 who loves paranormal romance books but is maybe getting bored with the 'normal' ones! This is a bit more exciting, so try it out is all I can say!!!!!
