The Player Next Door | Kathy Lyons

Finished 29/10/15

STARS 3*

I want to start off by saying even though it only got 3* from me, I enjoyed it however I was not like wow! Or this is AMAZING. There were things in the book that just did not work for me, however it was indeed cute in a strange way!

Tori Tori Tori, I like her however she majorly frustrates me, the sole reason for this is because of her character. She is the kind of person who in real life I just don't click with, complete opposite to myself.
She acts ditzy, but is super clever. Her attention span  is like 2 seconds yet she's a university professor. So i think that is one of the main reasons i did not fall in love with this book. I just could not fall in love with Tori. Which in a book kind of needs to happen, so the book becomes your life line and you can't put it down.

I liked the story line, it was cute however I feel like I had read it before in a way, however this is a slightly worse version. It reminds me of 'a neighbour from hell.'

I found that the story line rushed quite a bit. In the beginning it was all going in a good direction. Tori moved on from her Ex Edward and meet the pro athlete Mike. They meet in a strange yet quite funny way. Which i was thinking ah okay maybe the book will improve and i will fall in love with it. Nope did not happen. Anyway Tori meets Mike hanging upside down on her roof. Yep you read that correctly she was hanging off her roof.
#roofinggonewrong!

This was all sweet and cute. Mike and Tori had their sexual tension and such and then BAM they slept together. I was like wow this is moving way to fast for me! I felt like all the spark had gone, and Tori's lack of attention span was starting to really eat away at me.
Tori only wants a summer romance with Mike to get over her Ex or so she says. However she keeps thinking she's falling in love, however theres no encounters or tension to show this. She then has this rocky summer lovin' with Mike until he leaves for the Basketball season to start.

This leads to the part of the book that I like the most which was most defiantly the ending, LOL no not because it was over ahhh, but because it was cute. There was tension and it was more sexy! I just wish the whole book had of lived up to it!

Overall it was not the hot sports romance I was envisioning!

Team Lucas | Ally Adams

Finished 28/10/15

STARS 5*

A very sassy and entertaining book, with a Big headed arrogant untrusting male, and a will not back down, knows how to give the sass back female. That in my view is a GREAT book.

I went into reading this book expecting not to fall in love with it but BOY was i wrong, right off the go Ally Adams had me wrapped around her little finger. I was hocked and it was bad, as in reading all night even though i have a 9am lecture bad. However TOTALLY worth every second!

Mia is the girl that has got saddled with Lucas, the jock. He's a professional soccer player, she is a student still at college, who recently got banned from her job, due to telling a client where he can stick it. Mia you see is a sample collector/tester. Checking up on clients who have addictions, how you are wondering does this lead to Lucas? Well Lucas had some drug problems and is in need of his 5th 'minder' as he fondly refers to them. In comes Mia, and he thinks he can get rid of her in day one, she's not sure she will last. But against the odds she hangs on, sometimes just by the tips of her fingers.

Mia moves into Lucas Guess suite, the 'Posh Pad' as her and BFFL Alice like to call it. This Posh Pad is a darn sight more attractive than Mia's Student studio flat, thats for sure.
However living with Lucas who is hell bent on making her job as hard as possible is not all rainbows and sunshine. I will not lie they have there super cute and funny moments too as well as there mean and shitty ones.
My favourite if you can call it that 'mean' moment was when Lucas decided to be a real dick. Mia asked for a sample, meaning he needed to pee in a pot. She got her pot back as well as another pot with some 'swimmers' in. Lucas being Lucas told her she could go inseminate her self so she could sponge child benefits of him. That my dear friend Lucas is low of the low.

However by some miracle Lucas manages to start trusting Mia, and the tension between them before is now very much sexual tension. And you know what they say about sexual tension...Well when it explodes is crazy, and yes Mia's and Lucas's does indeed. FINALLY i was singing in my head FINALLY FINALLY, because lets face it, it had to happen. You can't not fall in love with Mia and Lucas. And having them together makes the cake that much sweeter i have to say.

Overall it was an ADDICTIVE book I think I need my own 'minder' so i don't keep reading it over and over!

You love Mia straight away, and Lucas has his oven Bad boy Jock charm which are always my weakness, so it was practically the perfect book for me, the only way it could have been better is if it had of been about the NFL. But we can't have everything in life i guess ;(

What would I say to people who are thinking of reading it?

READ THE DAMN BOOK, and try not to lose your heart in the process I dare ya ;)

Till next time readers :)

Scoring Wilder by R.S.Grey

Finished 2014, re read Sept 2015

STARS 5*
Review Part 1

This book is one of My absolute favourites. The main reason is because there is NO way you cannot not fall in love with the characters as well as attempt not wet your self because you are laughing so hard!

The book starts off in an unusual way. We don't get the normal my name is....and blah blah blah about the main character no. We start off with cheating boyfriends....every girl loves a good bit of gossip and i think most boys do to so what a way to captivate everyone from the first line.
I also feel that this first part sets a sort of feel for the whole book in the way you see the little bits of humour that grace each and every chapter. At this point we don't know anything about the lead character other than she is great at closing horrible boyfriends and is as SASSY as they come! Which for me is what makes me laugh so much in this book, Its like i can here my friends and i saying and thinking these little comments and that makes it so easy to connect with Kinsley, who we happen to officially meet when she walks in on her boyfriend Josh sleeping with 'a bimbo.' I love the fire we see in Kinsley, she is not going to be a 'save me' kinda character who needs the boy to rescue her oh no she won't take any prisoners!

Kinsley is on the womens college football team, at her new university her aim is to make it to professional olympic level. I like the fact she is an athlete in this book, its interesting and motivational. We meet  Liam Wilder the male lead of this book at a house party.Liam is also a football player and a very very good one at that he plays for the All stars, which happens to be the same team the Kinsley's cheating Ex is a rookie on. This makes things very interesting, funny and intense through the book. However when Kinsley meets football God Liam she is blown away by his sexyness. Love how they describe Liam and that he's a super attractive guy always helps. You know as soon as they meet that they are made for each other. Both stubborn and sassy the perfect match.
However there is a amusing and frustrating twist to there story. Liam is Kinsley's coach this season, as he is helping out at the University, in aim to fix his bad boy reputation. The head coach has a No Go rule on Liam, but of course we know that Kinsley NEEDS to be with Liam. I was pro Liam the whole way through this book i mean how could you not be!

Things start to head up between the two, they have there trouble moments which of course are necessary in every romance book. They also have a small problem called Tara, Tara is the evil cunning bitch that want Liam, hates Kinsley and is too sneaky for her own good. Kinsley and Tara have their fair share of problems from Tara picking on here to making her do extra hard training practices because oh yes did i mention she is the team captain? Tara sucks big time!
I have a few favourite parts to this hatred between the two, one of them being when Tara is talking Kinsley's reaction and her thoughts are HILARIOUS, on so many levels!
'I wanted to stab one of Coach Davis' pencils in my eye just to get out of hearing her finish that sentence. I know that stabbing my eye wouldn't cause hearing loss, but maybe the trauma of the situation would shut Tara up'
The reason i was laughing so much when i read this was because A) so like Kinsley to say this, its the kind of dry humour that she has. B) totally something either my friends or I would say to each other when someone annoying is talking. I just adored that statement so much!!
Another of my favourite points was when the new freshers on the team were made to dress up and sort of play Quidditch from Harry Potter. All had to dress up in there crazy costumes. However the icing on the cake was when Tara showed Kinsley here costume. She was not a player no she was the 'Snitch' and Becca was the 'Quaffle.' This meant yellow and brown tutus, so attractive. I have to give it to Tara she did well with this prank.

As you can properly tell i adore this book, i don't have enough words to describe it however the last half is emotional, tense and funny. The rivalry between Tara and Kinsley goes up a few levels, as does the romance between Liam and Kinsley.
I don't really want to go into to much detail about the last part of the book to be honest so much happens and even though i do reviews with spoilers obviously, i want to leave this a bit more for you to read and discover and i will later on do a part 2 review as so much happens :P I will also do just a cover review for the book as well

I think that they way R.S. Grey has written this book is class, she makes it so easy for you to connect with all the characters, and you feel every emotion that Kinsley has, as well as hearing her thoughts in your head. Which for me shows talented writing.

Have fun reading this book ¡chicas! Its so worth it and it really will make you laugh....well i hope it does otherwise i may be crazy haha....Also if you have/do read it leave a comment i want to know what you all think!!

Lastly i am sorry i have not done a review in a LONG time, i am still alive haha and reading books every day, but University life and work comes before my blog *sad crying* but i will do my best to do more recent reviews and my list of books to review is up to about 50 books now so trying not to cry inside!!

Love you all thank you for reading as always XOXO

Angels' blood by Nalini Singh

Finished 2013

Stars 5*

Elena is not the kind of character you fall in love with straight away, However I did really liked her strong will and determination. She's quite witty, and this makes her amusing and very clever, I am not sure I would say cunning but she has a lot of brain cells..In the beginning we learn about her and her job as a Vampire hunter...This leads us to Raphael.
Raphael is a name I adore, as I love angels, especially about the traditional ones depicted in religions. I am really pleased Singh used a proper name for him, this made the book that much better for me, it also shows she did her research and wanted to make this book feel like you are living there along with Elena and Raphael.
Right from the beginning you know that the Archangel is powerful. Singh's does this through the ways she makes him act and the way he is perceived. He gives off waves of arrogance, really not caring about the 'fragile mortals' that he rules over. Being the Archangel of Manhattan he could not, not be in top physical form, this therefore allows him to come across as strong and 'angelic'.
Straight away the book has drama and action, I mean Vampires, Angels and mortals we all know this is going to be crazy and lovable! Even if its bound to end in catastrophe.

The first meeting between Raphael and Elena is exciting and deadly, Elena is summoned! to Raphael. How can a mortal even if she does hunt down the vampires that the angels created not feel excited but terrified in Raphael's presence. She knows she dare not turn him down, and she really does not have a choice. She will be working for an Archangel. You could look at this point in the book two ways really. Either this is the point were everything goes down hill for Elena..Getting mixed up more in this other of their world will be disastrous...OR...Elena's life is going to be filled with passion, sexy moments and adventure that even the best vampire hunters would not get to see. I think I would go with the last one! Elena's life is going to be so interesting now, she works for an Archangel that needs to learn to value humans and she might just be the girl to show him human girls do it better!
Elena defiantly takes Raphael's interest and curiosity, I think to begin with thats all he sees her as is a play thing, well, as well as the means to hunt down Uram the rouge archangel, who has gone insane with blood lust. But then as you progress through the book you can feel Raphael starting to treasure her. Don't get me wrong he's still his dominating, arrogant character but he treasures her.
Near the End of the book when Elena has been captured by Uram and Raphael has come to free her you see how much she means to him. And i think this is one of my favourite parts to the book, it makes your heart break and melt at the same time. Raphael makes the ultimate choice, choosing to die with Elena and spend there last moments together.
My favourite quote is 'And he realised ....that a fragile mortal life wasn't just important to him. It was more important that his own' You know at this point Raphael realises what love is.

The cover of the book works well with the title and the general theme. I like the idea of the angel wing tattoos! I think its quite cool and maybe a bit different.
However I would love a more illustrated photograph of a angel with huge wings but so he looks more like a ghost/invisible hovering over a girl with white blond hair in a big city.

I have not looked at many points of this book, because the whole thing is so action packed that I would say this is a book you just have to read for your self. Twists and turns all over the place. Its extremely sexy and funny...An amazing start to 'A guild Hunter' series. You just have to read the next one when this is done. However out of all the books this one is the best!

I would recommend them to anyone over the age of 16 who loves paranormal romance books but is maybe getting bored with the 'normal' ones! This is a bit more exciting, so try it out is all I can say!!!!!

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatric

Finished - 2012 at some point
Re read 2014
Aim to re read this year too

FAVOURITE BOOK

Super long review WARNING

'A fallen ANGEL......A forbidden LOVE'

HOW CAN I NOT FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK? I can't, I adore everything about this book, the cover, the story ...THE CHARACTERS

So we start of with the Prologue, Loire Valley, France 1565. It tells us about a man Chauncey and a boy. Its a great introduction to the story, very mysterious...I think it gives a good bit of background info for the book to lead off from. I was curious about the boy/ angel, this made me want read on! I also love that passage from Peter 2:4, which started the book. It gave a feel for the book and what was to follow.
'....God spared not the Angels that sinned,
But casted them down to hell,
And delivered them into chains of darkness,
to be reserved unto judgment.....'

Then we jump into the present day, I love the way this is written. The fact that it starts off with a Sex Ed lesson is very amusing, it sets the tone to the book and I just thought it was great! We meet Vee and Nora. Nora is the main character, and Vee her best friend. The way they are made to not sit next to each other in class, made me laugh because its so like my friends. I love how you can connect with this book. And of course you need a SEXY male character...in comes Patch. Arrogant,  sexy and a bad boy...pushes Nora's buttons which makes for a funny read, because he just loves to make Nora uncomfortable!
Patch and Nora are forced to work together, which means more spending time together much to Nora's disgust. I love the banter between the two...its funny and enjoyable. Patch uses charm to distract Nora at times, making this book hot too!
After spending time at Vee' s, Nora is forced to drives Vee's car home in the 'patchy' fog. She hits something in the dark, a person but he was not injured....WEIRD...it gets creepy when the man walks to the car and tears the door clean off the car! Then when Nora shows Vee, the car is totally fine? WHAT THE HELL....this book is so mysterious and exciting!
Later on in the book (one of my favourite parts) is when Vee and Nora go to the theme park, to meet up with two guys they meet earlier. But who do they happen to see hmm? PATCH <3 Nora and Patch go on The Archangel a new ride at the park. This is when it all starts to get even more exciting.  Nora is shown her falling off the coster to her death, she experiences what its like to almost die, but then Patch saves her. Weird stuff... Nora gets a ride off Patch and he takes her home, and seems to invite him self in. I think Nora is slightly scared of Patch at this point. But he's cool, calm, arrogant character means he controls everything. Then when Patch pushes more buttons and gets his sexy on, i think he really does like Nora but also likes annoying her.
About 1/3 of the way through the book Vee and Nora are attacked, this is the third weird thing to happen to Nora.  She is suspicious around Patch, because everything bad that happens he seems to be there, he knows so much about her...I mean I would be freaked out too! But she can't stop her attraction to him either.
Yet another strange encounter happens....I believe this is number 4...Someone was in Nora's house, she knows it we know it, but no one really believes her. This is clever because it makes all her other experiences also feel like she is making them up, and is going crazy.
Elliot one of the boys the two girls went on a date with...he seemed nice but now they think he murdered someone....hmmmm the plot thickens ! This book is so action packed you really have to keep up and try to remember everything that has happened.
Okay so up next is the fight with Marcie... I think this is a bit random in the book, there is so much action already was this needed? Maybe on but what the hell it was still fun, when the popular girl gets knocked down a peg or two its not a bad thing...but when she turns out to be really hurt and not by Nora thats not so great! Nora is a major suspect into how Marcie got hurt, and this makes Nora look even more insane, this book is getting very twisted and exciting at this point. But to make it even bette Patch a Nora go out on a DATE !!! Its pretty normal, Nor gets to see him topless so thats always a bonus because who does not love a good six pack? ...Exactly.... However a suspicious shaped scare on Patch's back makes Nora suspicious....Are angels really and can they fall?

Then things get tense and fast paced! I was so tense reading this, its a real thriller...Vee goes out to a party with Elliot and Jules...remember them? Well Nora is worried she needs to find Vee...She sets out but its a bad neighbourhood and she gets cornered by a Bag lady, trades her coat and phone. That sounds bad well it gets worse! The Bag lady wears Nora's coat...THEN SHE GETS SHOT...DEAD, that was meant to be Nora...Okay so time to freak outttttttt
Who should she ring from the pay phone? PATCH. So along comes the night in shining armour, however his car dies and now they are stranded yet again...This means over night stay with Patch in a hotel..hehehe Nora discovers something..If she touches Patches Scares she can see into his past...Great detail in the story and it was good to see it from Patch's point of view as well as learning more!
Nora knows Patch is a fallen angel and starts to piece things together, this is interesting because we already sort of knew what was going on. I like the way she works it out, and Patch plays it cool, while still answering her questions and trying to curb her anger.

Nora's next episode with death comes next..and who's threatening her this time? Well of course its Patch's Ex/Angel...Mean bitch! She sneaks into Nora's house and pounces... and tries to kill Nora, sets the house on fire and everything just goes down hill fast...But Patch is there to save her! See what i mean the action is coming thick and fast now! Okay now worry about Vee...Nora's safe, Patch is taking care of the crazy angel lady, and Vee is still not home! The three of them broke into the school, now Nora and Patch have to get them out. This is where we start to really understand who's who, and whats going on. The ending of this book is AMAZING...and i never suspected it.

Elliot is not the killer..Jules is the bad guy..SHOCK HORROR ! Remember Chauncey? yep thats Jules. I honestly never ever though of that! It was a GREAT twist! So Jules wants to kill Nora as revenge for Patch taking over his body. I love the ending its the best part of the book and concludes it so well! Well done Becca Fitzpatrick!
So the next 3 books are just as A M A Z I N G !!!!!!!!
MUST READ THEM
I will review them soon #watchthisspace

Oh and the cover LOVE ... LOVE ...LOVE ...LOVE
The feather detail is so clever and it shows whats happening in the book so well!

Angelfall by Susan Ee

Finished - 2013 at some point...Re read 2014 and  July 2015

STARS 5*

I know i say this a lot BUT.....WHAT AN AMAZING BOOOOOK!!!

Okay lets start with the cover! BEAUTIFUL ! I think this is one of the most stunning covers i have ever seen, honestly i would have printed it out HUGE to put on my bedroom wall. Or maybe just stick it on my face ....
Why do i like it ? The font used in the title is Bold but stylish in a simple not in an over done way. Its traditional, which contrasts as well as complimenting the background of the cover which is more artistic. Therefore i think the work really well together! The illustration of the angel wings is MAGNIFICENT, just beautifully done, not to much but just enough to make u want to treasure the book and look after it! The colours help to make the wings stand out, as its like they are glowing in the dark blue/black background.

What about the book do i love that too? hmmmm YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! One of my FAVOURITE reads of 2013, 2014 and 2015 haha.

Penryn is a great leading character...loved her from the start, you feel so many emotions in this book. In the beginning when you meet Penryn, you are thrown into her life. I think this is a good way to start no lead up just get on with it! You learn about what she is going through in this world since the Angel attacks...and then what sort of life she had before. I felt so much compassion towards her, especially as she is looking after her sister Paige, who has lost the use in her legs. And her mother which in the beginning really annoys me!
At the start when the group have to move out of there condo because its not safe due to Gangs and they need food, you are really worried about what is going to happen, because you know something bad is around the corner.  This totally makes the hairs on your arms stand on end! You realise how brave Penryn really is, and how frustrating her mother is. On of the saddest parts of the book happens now, what a way to start! Really make the heart work in this book eh Susan! Paige is taken by the bad angels. When they happen to stumble apron an Angel fight. They are worried about Gangs and the come across an angel fight! I mean what sort of luck is that! The mother runs off to hid, leaving Penryn chasing down Paige worried to death...at this point a lot of hatred is going to the mother!!!
Anyway you start to learn how clever Penryn is, moving the angel pretending he's super heavy so gangs won't attack! GENIUS! Go Penryn !!!
This is when we meet the wingless angel Raffe. As soon as we meet him you want them to fall in love...The Big Bad Angel and poor little Penryn. The exchanges between Raffe and Penryn in the beginning are well composed, they are frustrating, funny and action packed. A great foundation for a truly amazing book are being created and you know it when you read it...believe me!
So so much drama in this book, i want to look at when Raffe is captured by the resistance, and Penryn goes to save him...But ends up getting caught too. This is so thrilling because they are in a resistance camp against the angels, and who just walked in? an angel...oh the irony! So this is worrying for the two because if they get found out trouble will happen thats for sure, this totally keeps you turning the pages and reading as fast as you can! What else can i say about this part? Funny its very funny, mud fights, this part is particularly good, and when Penryn takes on this massive guy in a fight. Go GIRL...and she wins haha. They also make new friends such as Dee Dumb, which prove to be very helpful in the future, thats for sure.
Well of course they finally part ways from the resistance and move back on to find Paige. When they make it to the angel district, things really heat up again and its so crazy and action packed i am not even sure what to say!
Well lets start with them getting help from Raffe's Ex, she promises to sew on his wings, turns out that she's evil as screws them over by giving him demon wings!
Penryn has to save Paige, and finds her with these scorpion monsters, in tanks sucking the life out of people. Paige has been mutated and cut up...but she can walk again! this is a massive twist in the horrible ending thats the only positive to whats about to go down. Its so fast passed you have to keep up because you CAN'T stop reading! The angels are being attacked by the resistance, and all hell breaks louse! And Penryn is stabbed by one of the scorpions, this means she is now frozen, she looks dead, no heartbeat or pulse but is fully awake. Raffe thinks she is dead, and hands her over to her family and the resistance...Such an emotional and sad ending because Raffe does not know she is alive and you know he loves her! This really makes you NEED to read the next book...I flew straight on to it.
Susen Ee you are an amazing writer and thank you for a fast paced, action packed, heart wrenching, loveable, frustrating book that you just can't help falling in love with!

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Finished- July 28th 2015

STARS 4 1/2*

I don't normally go for the whole alien end of the world concept in books, normally more of a Angel/Demon lover. However I was drawn to this book, I thought the name was intriguing as I was wondering what it would be about. The blurb is super interesting and really makes you want to see what is going on.  However you dont really know its about aliens, it sounds more like natural disasters.

I like the way Rick Yancey has written the book, first looking at the beginning and how it all started. I did not really understand it to begin with however more is uncovered the further you go in the book, which is good because it keeps you on your toes. You never really guess whats going to happen.

Cassie the main character, really worked for me as she was interesting strong willed and determined. Even though she goes trough hell she pushes on. Which for me is what a strong female lead should most defiantly do!
You learn about Cassie and her life before the first wave in the begging, about her crushes and her ‘boring, normal’ way of living. Bet she wishes it was like that again.
We find out all about the first wave and what happened to Cassie, from where she was to what she is doing now.  Her mum died of the disease brought in the First wave, then its just her brother and Dad. (I started to develop an emotional attachment to Cassie, you feel for her and it makes you love her more and more)
The three of them move on to a camp with other survivors…MISTAKE. The think they are safe, especially when they see a helicopter scouting out the area. This is when things really start to heat up!!!!
Turns out the Army are not that helpful in this book, because they are not really the Army. They troops come into the camp, and take all the children. This means Cassie’s bother Sammy.
Leaving Cassie and her dad back at camp with a few soldiers, TENSE moments follow…leading to the death of everyone but Cassie. I think this is the first point where she realises that you can trust no one. People are not people, friends are not friends…Basically you are screwed no matter what.
In the next chapter we meet ‘Zombie’ He is one of the people who is being trained to go against the aliens and help save humanity…Or so we think.
Sammy Cassie’s brother turns up at the same camp…WEIRD because we know the people who took them are not friends they are the bad people. This whole thing is frustrating because we know what they don’t. Clever of Yancey because it makes you want to keep reading!
We tend to jump between Cassie’s adventure and Zombie/Sammy’s. This is the middle part of the book and it is ACTION PACKED.
Cassie meets death a few time, and maybe what turns out to be trying to kill her saves her? This is a great twist to the plot. The Good guys are B A D…And the Bad guy G O O D….. What the hell. Major mind twist here! Anyway we meet ‘the silencer/ Evan’ the guy who has tried to kill her as that is his job ;his mission…and yet he cant. We get a whorl wind romance between Evan and Cassie, its very exciting and frustrating but makes the book that bit better. The fact that Cassie does not really know that Evan is ‘the Silencer’ makes in interesting as she starts to become suspicious.
We jump back to Zombie and Sammy were they are being trained to kill along with other members of there team. Ringer, Dumbo, Teacup and Poundcake are also there. They are sent out on a mission to kill the infected humans who are helping the aliens…This is when they realise that the people they are killing are human, and not alien and everything is backwards. I found this part of the book really interesting and very thrilling.
Zombie works it out and hatches a plan to get back to camp to rescue Sammy while letting his team go free. Its really quite clever.
The two parts of the book then collide when Cassie meets Zombie, who turns out to be Ben they guy she had a crush on when they were a school back when the world was ‘normal’. Both Cassie and Zombie are wanting to free Sammy so they work together to get him out. Evan saves the day by creating a distraction that will help to save them but will break Cassie’s heart, as she learns she loves him no matter what!
What and amazing end to the book! Its emotional, thrilling and exciting. Which is what sums the book up entirely. I really loved reading it! Well done Rick Yancey.

Love the cover as well! Graphics are very interesting and the images used are beautiful!

Original Image, not mine

You really cant wait to read the next book!
I think I chase down the postman for a week waiting for the sequel to arrive! No jokes……

Forsaken by Jana Oliver

The Demon Trappers 1

Finished - 2014, have re read 2 times

STARS 5*

I adore this book, its as simple as that. I first picked it out because the cover is A M A Z I N G !
I love the font of the title, its easy to read but kind of mysterious which totally reflects the books.
The images used on the cover are fantastic, the way the girls face is highlighted with dark eyes, looks like she is coming out of the shadows. It draws the eye in to the cover. This is then complimented by the city on fire, which is very evident in the book. As the Demons cause havoc.
Original Image link, I do not own this image

Okay so onto the book. Riley...what a girl,  she is the perfect leading female in this book. Funny, smart and strong. Which is what she needs to be to live in this demon infested land. At the beginning we learn that Riley is a Demon Trapper. She hunts and traps low level demons and sells them. We also me her Dad, Paul Blackthorn, legendary demon trapper and Beck, who Riley happens to have love/hate relationship with.
Paul and Beck go out trapping one night, like normal Riley is made to stay at home while they go do there job. However they don't return....Beck comes back bloody and beaten after meeting a level 5 demon. This is a very sad part to the book as Riley's dad is now gone, and with no parents she is left in Atlanta all alone. How will she ever finish her training and become a Demon Trapper? Not only does she have the bills to pay, and a funeral to cover, she has Beck to worry about. He's mean, annoying and rude...But you find it hard not to fall in love with him!
He helps her pay the bills and watch over her when she is out trapping, even though she's not meant to be. I think this is when you start to see that Beck does actually really care about Riley. Also this part of the book is when u start to connect with the characters!

Simon is her fellow apprentice trapper, he is one of the only guys who is nice to Riley, as she tries to show whats she's made of in this all male profession.  Eventually a romance blossoms between Simon and Riley much to my annoyance as I think Beck is much better!
Ori, Ori is 'the sexy stranger' that keeps turning up when ever Riley is in trouble which is a bit weird. He appears out of no where to save her again and again. He says he's a demon trapper from out of town hunting down this level 5 demon, he says he will keep Riley safe. Do we believe him? Yes…Because who does not Love a sexy Stranger?

At the end of the book all hell breaks lose....Literally....A massive demon attacks the church where the demon trappers are having a meeting. The holy water that is meant to keep them safe, set by Simon, however it does not. Demons are everywhere breaking through the barrier,  thanks to Riley’s dead dad Paul, they had a little warning. Demon Trappers are killed and Simon is injured. The demons know Riley’s name which is most unusual and causes everyone to wonder what is going on, is she to blame for the demon attack?
Simon is taken to hospital and this is where Riley makes a promise. One she's not sure she can keep. To save Simon from death she must make a promise with an Angel. Did she make the right decision? We find out in the next book!
This was action packed book, very intense, I thought I was brilliantly written and shows off just how talented Jana Oliver is. I loved Riley, and this therefore helped me to fall in love with this amazing story! The characters Oliver creates are so easy to picture in your mind and this makes it easy to understand the book.

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

Finished-26th Sept 2015

STARS 4*

Black Ice what a book I really enjoyed this, fun, easy and exciting read. Brit is an easy character to like. Her friend Korbie however really annoyed me, as it was written they have a weird friendship and I think they really do. Korbie is selfish and foolish, which I find makes me not like her, and like Brit more which is not a bad thing.
On to the Men...Calvin, in the beginning I was thinking what a JERK! At the end what a Psycho...He is creepy and annoying with his weird ways, however you never really suspect him until its to late.
I have to give it to Becca Fitzpatrick, she knows how to write a thriller, and because I LOVED Hush Hush so much I was waiting to be disappointed and I was not.
Mason/Jude LOVE ... I am not sure why but the name Mason always makes me fall in love.  What a rollercoaster we went on with Mason though...Hes described as this Hot, Sexy man who rescues her from embarrassment with her EX. Which gives him MAJOR bonus points! So initially we love him...Then who opens the door high up in the snowy mountain to come to the rescue of the girls...Mason! But then he stops looking so kind and helpful and you start to realise going into a cabin with two strange guys...BAD idea.
At this point you start to wonder why are you, 2 girls driving up a mountain at night in a white out! SO STUPID. This just means you should have got kidnapped! Especially walking to a strange cabin where 3 girls have died/been murdered in the same area.
Not so clever.
This therefore does lead to there kidnapping...and Brit is taken away from Korbie, Mason does not seem so bad, and as the book goes on you start to see he's not bad at all, this is when he becomes Jude, and I fell in love with him again!
The SHOCK he's the bad guy again and silly Brit runs away from him to good old Calvin...MISTAKE! Run back to Jude but alas its to late...This is when we find out Calvin is the bad guy he killed the girls not Mason. Before I get to the end of the Mason/Jude up down romance we need to look at the last character who all along I thought was the bad guy....Shaun.  Is he creepy? YES....Is he annoying? YES.....Does he look and act like the killer?....YES Is he the killer?....NOOO....WHAT....Exactly what I thought too. He should be the killer this is where Becca's writing was really clever. She made you think the killer is someone else, like in all good thrillers this is what you want to be tricked and lead down many paths!

Then skipping to the end... WHAT A GREAT ENDING! Sooooo cute and pretty perfect! I mean you just had to let that happen Becca! Brit and Jude super cute and I was so so happy with this ending really made the book worth reading with the up/down stress of that romance!

Cover = LOVE, Perfect I love it because I works well. Makes u want to see what its about.  I can't find a picture of this book with the cover I have so I will take one and add it in at some point :P

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

LUX 1

Finished 23rd SEPT 2015

STARS 5*

OBSIDIAN LOVE THIS BOOK! I first read it about a year ago, but I was very busy so read it fast. Then I had a book voucher and was like 'Obsidian here we come' and bought the first and second LUX books. I really fell in love with this book right from the beginning! Jennifer L. Armentrout's work is just amazing! Her writing style is captivating and how can you just not fall in love with the characters. Katy..Kitten is AAAMMAAAZZING I mean a book lover, blogger and just super cool! Wishing I was her!
And Daemon LOVEEEEEE. He's like the perfect guy even if he is a jerk to begin with we all love a good bad boy!

Katy and Daemon are the perfect couple so there romance just made me so happy....I don't normally like alien books because they are not really me, but this book is to die for! I like the concept of a normal girl, falling for the bad boy...I know its been done hundreds of times but allows me to live in hope but anyway. The friendship between Dee and Katy, its fun and makes the characters more loveable. And this book is hot, in a fun way. I love the teasing between Daemon and Katy, it shows that he really does like her.

I have read 4 of the LUX books so my views are based sort of on the 4. I think each book is as good as the last and no where was I disappointed. I will do reviews on each one.

Updated July 2016
I just re read this book and yet again I have fallen in love with Daemon and Katy. I love the attitude and the chemistry they have in the first book. It shows just how talented Armentrout is, she gives the characters time to develop. Allowing you to fall in love with them all, before she brings them together.

I went straight on and read the other 4, so now having read all 5, I can honestly as I loved each one as much as the last. For a writer to write 5 books, about the same characters and no allow the reader to become bored shows such how captivating her writing really is. Not once did I feel that one book lead the series down. This for me is what makes this series so very special. I could also read them again and again, still loving them as much as I did the first time I read them. This makes me very happy ;P

The Cover
Stars 2*
The one thing I don't like about this book is the Damn cover! NOOO why!
I don't feel it shows of Daemon or Katy, I like the colour scheme but its just not what I think should be on the book, I feel it could be so much better and really make it stand out.
The cover models DO NOT match the descriptions IN THE BOOK. God I hate it when they don't match! Why use a model that does not fit with the book!
Daemon is meant to be tall you can see this model is not, yes the hair and body fit somewhat. But Katy? No No NO! She is meant to have light brown hair..... Not jet black.
As I said I like the colours and the general idea of the cover, the green gives an alien feel, which is what it is about so yay. The title font is good, but I think a serif font would have worked better. But I like the back drop, it is off what looks like a sea, so thats a bit weird as they are meant to be by a lake I guess. But I think there could have been one that fitted in with the book better.

I guess what I am trying to say is.. The book and cover should reflect each other, you don't what the cover to give much away, however, it has to relate. Even if its subtle details that before reading the book mean nothing.

I give the Cover 2*, I feel I was generous with this, it is really of the layout and colour.

The Rain by Virginia Bergin

Finished- 30th SEPT 2015

STARS 1*

Cover = Love + Blurb = Love....Book = NOT love
This really disappointed me for a variety of reasons. However first before I have a bit of a rant, the good parts?! Are there any..Well yes. Its hard to talk about the good without the bad, but I like the concept of the book. I know its another Apocalyptic book, but who cares they are good ideas and can be really entertaining. So I personally really liked the idea of the rain killing you. I thought it was different because water is needed by everyone and I can imagine when you don't have it, a major panic would have be caused. And thats about all I like about this book, however  the concept never really shined.
The reason I found this whole thing disappointing started with the way this book was written. Maybe I am to old to like it but whatever, the way it felt was as if I was inside the girls brain. Which sounds cool but it was super annoying! I felt like my brain was going non stop trying to keep up with what was going on. It was as if all the things that were being thought were written down, which made it hard to read and understand what Ruby was feeling or what I was meant to feel.
Ruby is the main character and I really disliked her! And thats not a good start. You want to connect with them not hate them, to this was tiring! She was frankly quite self centre and stupid, which I don't therefore understand how she would have survived because all she cared about was clothes. And if the world was ending and I was about to die, I would not care what I looked like I would just wanna be with people who I loved! Ruby's mission was to make it to her dad, as he was the only family member left...It took I would say half of the book to get to London...After so much drama that at some points such as when they met the boy, hope that the book would get good soon disappeared! I felt like so much drama was being crammed into one book, this made everything less exciting for me. And then what I don't get is when she finally made it to London, how she got back home in one evening! Without any drama, that makes no sense to me what so ever!
So I, as you can properly tell was underwhelmed and kind of annoyed by this book, however maybe if you where slightly younger you may have a different view..who knows...

The Rain Book Cover

I think the graphics for this cover really make it stand out, this is why I decided the book looked good and therefore I read the blurb! I love the grey background with the red writing. It gives the meaning of blood and death, which reflects what the rain brings which is very clever and I really like it.  The image of the girl is also quite eye catching and powerful as she is walking though a storm which is what here journey is going to be like. So I think the cover does reflect what the book is about but its much more impressive haha

Soulmates by Holly Bourne

Finished -1st SEPT 2015

STARS 4*

Soulmates, what to say about this book....Well I loved it but it frustrated me. I think the characters in this book are really well thought out. You can connect with Poppy, because she seems sweet and for me the most like myself out of the 4 girls.  Noah is very cool and I think he works well as the male lead in the book. You fall in love with him pretty quickly, and you just know as soon as the girls mention a hot guy that Poppy will end up with him because she is so against guys.  The thing that frustrates me is the way it is set in England. I live in the UK and am English, and the way most characters are portrayed in books set in the UK, kinda annoys me, because they all use words that I don't feel most english people say. However in this book it was bearable, and did not stop me from enjoying this story.

I like the way Bourne switches between the Teens in the Uk, to the Scientist people in the USA. To begin with I did not really get it, and I was like let me get back to Poppy and Noah...But it was interesting to see what the whole 'Soulmates' attraction was about. And you started to know more about it before they did. I think this was well written.

Okay so THE END....what the HELL! The whole way through I knew something bad would happen because Poppy and Noah were so happy. But no way was I expecting the end to be so sad....I cried ! I don't cry so WHAT THE HELL! Anywayyy when they got captured and Noah had a plan, I was like its okay we will all be fine the man has a plan! But NO noah your plan SUCKED! And 2 years later and they were still apart....WHY WHY WHY....can't you let me have my happy ending! All I can say is that there better be a second book because every time I look at the cover I am like damn.

Now I want to look at the cover of the book. I really like it because its eye catching, and I don't know why but I like the more artistic covers with the dark back grounds and light eye catching points. This is a perfect example.
A good cover makes me want to treasure the book, and of course read it!

HEY GUYS

So I have FINALLY got around to making this blog! Which I am super excited about I just can't even..
So a little about me, My Name is Harriotte Preston and I am 18. I love reading obviously, but my other loves are Art/Design and Horses. So I try and link in all of my passions through books, I love looking at cover designs! I know they all say don't judge a book by its cover, but seriously! When you pick up a book, you have chosen to look at it due to the cover catching your eye no? So to me book covers are super important. Maybe one day I will go into book branding and design....Who knows

What I aim to do, is review all the books that I love to read and give my honest opinions. I want to try and read books I would not normally, which will push me out on my book adventure.
So wish me luck and hope you like reading my reviews, comments are always welcomed and loved!

I am going to rate all books out of 5*, and I will include that date I finished the books. However I do aim to review some of my favourite books that I may have read a while ago.

Perseus and I...Picture just because who does not love a picture!
